Gail Sobotkin: Milford, Delaware is Talking About M&M

My home town of Milford, Delaware, is a beautiful river and art town. It was named, by the American Planning Association, as one of the best towns in America in 2013 and I wholeheartedly agree with that assessment, but what makes Milford truly great is its people.

When I emailed a press release about M & M to Bryan Shupe, Editor of the Milford Review, he asked me to meet him at the Dolce’ Bakery for an interview about the book and how it will benefit veterans. You can see the wonderful article he published on 10/15/13 at the following link:

https://milfordlive.com/review/MilfordReview-101513.pdf  and scrolling down to Local Author Supports Wounded Warriors.

Encouraged by Bryan’s coverage, I emailed Kay Hudson, Director of the Milford Public Library, asking if she could help promote the book and she immediately responded with words that warmed my heart. “Yes, I would love to meet with you and discuss the possibilities of promoting the book and whatever else we can do.”

I don’t know of anyone in town who doesn’t love cupcakes from the Dolce Bakery, so on my way to the library, I brought a box of them to be shared with our friendly library staff.

My meeting with Kay was productive and she and her activities director, Carolyn, had some wonderful ideas about how we could incorporate a display for M & M into their upcoming exhibit for the annual Milford Holiday Stroll. The holiday stroll is a big event and all the businesses in Downtown Milford participate. For weeks beforehand elaborate decorations go up and excitement builds as everyone looks forward to the night of the stroll.

It was serendipitous that this year’s theme is “Home for the Holidays” and is meant to honor veterans. The display for M & M will highlight the fact that 70% of profits from the book will benefit veterans through the K9s for Wounded Warriors Program/Rescue and I’m creating a poster exhibit with matching post cards instead of a regular pamphlet. The post cards can double as a book mark and I think library patrons will therefore be more likely to hold onto them which means they’ll keep seeing the book’s name and will have purchasing info if they’re inspired to buy a copy for themselves or as a gift for someone they love.

I’m looking forward to working with Kay and Carolyn on the display and will post more pictures when it’s set up inside the library.

Gail

Femme,
You did a great job formatting the article I wrote and posting the photos. I loved that you were able to add links to my beautiful home town of Milford, Delaware and to some of the folks and businesses who are supporting our efforts to spread the word about Mysterious & Miraculous Book II. I am continually amazed by the friendliness and helpfulness of the people who live here.

Dear Gail,

I have felt so blessed to be aware of your wonderful promotion of our first volume of Mysterious and Miraculous. Yet, there is something even more special seeing it showcased so well with the beautiful pictures featuring the great people in your Milford town who have reached out to help spread the word. You and your town are a 'good fit' with your warmth and genuine kindness ...impossible not to be inspired by the work we have undertaken as I treasure this.

Thanks to you and femme for spreading the word. Hugs to you both,

Dear Maria,
Your ability to tap into my own feelings never ceases to amaze me. Yes, I do feel blessed and it is wonderful to live in a beautiful town where kindness of others is encountered on a daily basis, especially in regards to spreading the word on this project.
I also feel blessed to be working with you and Angelia because I'm learning so much from both of you and you're both so selfless in the giving of your time and talents.
Hugs right back to you,
Gail

Gail, This is great news. I think you were very clever in bringing the donuts also. I am glad the newspaper was so interested. It gives us all incentive to think of new ways to get the word out about this book.

Hi Pam,
It's easy to spread the word when you know the book is a great read and that profits are going to a wonderful cause.
I'm sure you'll come up with some ways for garnering publicity that are unique to your own community. I also believe that good old fashioned word of mouth is one of the best ways to get people interested. That's why I was happy to see the Amazon.com book review that you wrote. There are eight 5 star reviews for Mysterious & Miraculous Book I now, and I think that says a lot about the quality of the book.
Also, your story contributions to M & M Book I & II are awesome and I'm so glad you're part of this project.
Hugs,
Gail

Gail, this is awesome! You must be so proud to live in a town so receptive to reaching out, honoring our veterans and showcasing the book. The timing is perfect! You definitely have a solid marketing sense.

Hi Shauna,
You are so right about the timing and I am proud of the community spirit that Milford has. I'm also happy to have the opportunity to spread the news not only about Mysterious & Miraculous, but about what a great place Milford, DE, is to live in or visit.
It's funny, but if I were promoting a book that I wrote myself I would not have such a strong drive to market it. As I said to Pam, knowing M & M Book I is a great read and that 70% of profits go to support K9s for Wounded Warriors Program/Rescue is the driving force behind my outreach.
Am so glad that you're also a legacy scribe now and that readers will get a chance to read your story in Mysterious & Miraculous Book II.
Also, many thanks for the great Amazon.com book review that you wrote for Book I.
Hugs,
Gail

Hi Mike,
Sorry I'm so late responding to this but I was away for a few days without computer access!
Thanks so much for all your encouragement and for the HUGE contributions you have been making in so many ways in the publication of both books and on the Legacy Archives Foundation. I feel so blessed to be part of this project with so many dedicated people.
Hugs & Love,
Gail

Gail that sure is serendipitous with the "Home for the Holidays." What an awesome thing you've done there in Milford and elsewhere. To be frank about it though it's nothing less than I would expect from a person and lady like yourself.

PS- I can't say much but the word goes through the grapevine and yours truly has a big Skype interview this coming week-end from Hollywood, Calif.. You can well bet you'll be mentioned our dedicated and extraordinary lady.

Hi Dane,
Thanks so much for your kind words and for the very mysterious PS at the end of the comment! How exciting that you're having a big Skype interview this weekend from Hollywood, California! While I love being credited for my efforts, there are many who deserve praise for going above and beyond to promote M & M Book I and contributing to M & M Book II.
Please be sure to mention all the promo work being done by Maria, Angelia and many of the other scribes who have written book reviews, sent out press releases and hung posters in many locales. This has truly been a team effort. And Mike Friedman has been putting in so many hours on the publishing end of things and so generously creating our new, awesome, logo and the art work you see at the top of this page.
Hope you'll come back and share a link to your Skype interview on this Hear Ye, hear ye page, and also tell us a bit about the experience of being interviewed! Good luck with the interview. I'm sure you'll do great.
Hugs,
Gail

Hi Femme,
I pasted the link in my browser and saw the lovely comment you left at the end of the "Local Author Supports Wounded Warriors" article. As you know, I would not have been able to do that interview without the support you and Maria gave me. With guidance from the two of you, and Bryan's professional, friendly interview and wonderful write-up, it was a "growing experience" for me and an awesome opportunity to spread the word about this book series and how it is raising funds for wounded warriors.
Hugs,
Gail

Hi Maria,
As I said to Femme, I could not have done the interview without the great support the two of you gave me. And I agree that Bryan Shupe did a thoughtful and professional job on the article.
